Fleet grew as a railway commuter town and it still is one, which shapes the energy profile of a lot of the households we work with here: very little daytime consumption, a sharp evening peak, and increasingly an electric car on the drive.
That combination makes storage and smart charging more valuable in Fleet than raw array size. A large array on a house that is empty from seven to seven mostly exports.

"Ben from SolarFX and his team have done a great job for us. Kept us in the loop at all stages, and Ben has been really supportive following the install with support, set up and managing the new system. During the recent sunny period our average cost per day for electricity was 60p. Would strongly recommend SolarFX."

EV charger installation in Fleet
We fit home EV charge points across Fleet and Hampshire, as a standalone job or alongside solar panels and a battery. We cover GU51, GU52 and the surrounding streets.
- Load assessment firstWe check your main fuse, consumer unit and demand, and add load management where the supply needs it.
- Safe earthing, every timePEN fault protection or a dedicated earth, established at survey rather than assumed.
- Charge from your own solarWith solar and a battery, a solar-aware charger fills the car from your roof instead of the grid.
- Smart, app-controlledCompliant smart charging with off-peak schedules, so you charge when electricity is cheapest.
What we find on Fleet roofs
- Commuter households: low daytime load, high evening peak — storage and time-of-use tariffs do the heavy lifting.
- High EV ownership makes solar-linked charging a common part of the brief.
- Housing ranges from Edwardian villas near the station through post-war suburbs to modern estates at Church Crookham and Elvetham Heath.
- Elvetham Heath and similar newer estates have modern consumer units and straightforward charger installations.
Sizing here should follow the tariff as much as the roof. A commuting household on a time-of-use tariff can fill a battery cheaply overnight, which means storage keeps earning through December when the array is contributing very little.
Where there is an electric car, we look at the charger, the battery and the array as one system. Charging the car from surplus generation is worth considerably more than exporting that generation and buying the miles back at the standard rate.
What we install in Fleet
Every one of these is available across Fleet and the surrounding area. Each page explains what is included, what is not, and what affects the price.
- Solar panel installationSurvey, design, roof works, electrical works and commissioning for a domestic solar PV system.
- Battery storage installationHome battery systems sized against your consumption, sited properly and commissioned with the tariff in mind.
- Solar and battery systemsPanels, hybrid inverter and storage designed as one system, on one scaffold, with one commissioning.
- EV charger installationHome charge points installed with a proper load assessment, PEN fault protection and solar-aware scheduling.
- Battery retrofitAdding storage to a solar system that is already on the roof, without disturbing what works.
- Solar panel maintenanceScheduled servicing of the whole system — array, fixings, DC side, inverter and monitoring — not just the glass.
What affects the price in Fleet
Most Fleet quotations include a charger, and doing the charger, battery and array in one visit avoids paying twice for the electrical works and the commissioning.
Where a board needs upgrading to support a charger safely, that is identified at survey and priced in.

How an installation in Fleet runs
| Stage | What happens |
|---|---|
| 1. Enquiry | You tell us the postcode, the property and roughly what you spend on electricity. |
| 2. Remote design | An indicative design and proposal based on the roof, your usage and your objectives. |
| 3. Site survey | Roof, structure, electrics, access and shading assessed in person. |
| 4. Final design and fixed quotation | A written specification and a fixed price before anything is ordered. |
| 5. Permissions and DNO | Any consent required, plus the G98 notification or G99 application. |
| 6. Installation | Scaffolding, roof works, electrical works and commissioning. |
| 7. Handover | Certification, monitoring setup, warranty registration and export tariff support. |
Many domestic installations are completed in one to three days once scaffolding is in place, although the actual duration depends on system size, roof type, access, electrical works and whether a battery is included. Read the full process.

Technology worth understanding first
- LFP batteriesLithium iron phosphate chemistry: why it became the domestic standard, and what it gives up in exchange.
- Battery sizingHow storage capacity and power rating are calculated from consumption data rather than from roof size.
- Mounting systemsHooks, rails, clamps and fixings — the part of the installation that decides whether the roof stays watertight.
- String invertersThe conventional central inverter: how strings are designed, where it is the best value, and where it is the wrong choice.
Guides for Fleet property types
- Victorian terracesNarrow slate slopes, party walls, rear back-additions and scaffolding through a shared alley — terraced solar on its own terms.
- Pre-1920 homesSolar on Victorian and Edwardian houses: brittle coverings, irregular rafters, ageing electrics and planning sensitivity.
- Post-1965 homesTrussed rafter roofs, concrete interlocking tile and modern electrics — the most straightforward housing stock to work on.
- New build homesRetrofitting or extending solar on a new build — structural warranty notification, shallow pitches, interrupted roof planes and covenants.
What homeowners in Fleet ask us first
I am out all day — is solar still worth it?
Yes, but the design changes. Without storage most of your generation is exported at a low rate and bought back in the evening at a high one. With a battery, that generation is used in your own home instead. For a commuting household the battery is usually doing more work than the last two kilowatts of panels.
Can I charge my car from the solar?
Partly, and more so with a battery. A smart charger can be set to prioritise surplus generation, so on a bright day the car takes what the house is not using. It will not fill a large battery from solar alone in December, which is where a cheap overnight tariff comes in.
